The one on the top is no different...That man in red often referred to as "JUMBO" walks back heart broken...excuse the sadism, but makes me feel unusually good!!
What also make me feel good is that group of "hurdling- men-in-blue" in the background...well there are three reasons for my happiness:
1) Well, those bunch of winners represent the city I belong to, apna hydie!
2) ----Adam Gilchrist----
3) Those wonderful people behind have made possible, the most incredible underdog story ever, and its unscripted!!
Coming back to the boys in red...well, every second person was pinning his/her hopes on them...
Not just the boys in red...I've heard people talking about the chances of every other team to clinch this second extravagant season...I heard them..smiled..and from the inside I could only picture Adam Craig Gilchrist holding it high with paparazzi going crazy!
So much for my vision! ;)
When I said something like "the most incredible 'unscripted' underdog story", I meant exactly what I said...
Everyone says "wooden spoon winners-transform into-diamond studded trophy holders"..and I don't really have to add anything more to it...
The man who is often referred to "JUMBO" din't really make things easy for us...got Gilly in the first over and it felt like someone was carrying out an excavation experiment in my coronary artery :( .We never really "bounced back" as I thought we would...and a total of 143 did not make me feel any better...But then Sushmita tells me the pitch was slow and there was nothing that would stop us from winning...I knew about the slow pitch but the second half of what she said felt a little better...
Watching a match with your favourite cousin is great fun...I remember laughing our way through the last season where we won absolutely nothing at "home"...
And there we were...watching it together again, but this was THE FINAL!!
Coming back to it, RCB seemed like they'd break our hearts and take it away..but there was something that still told me we'll pull it off....
Now, this man in red..is called Roelof Van Der Merwe...a very gutsy South African...
He came in after Kallis departed and like the commentators say "had his intentions clear"...
His aggressive approach could have landed them in an overwhelming victory...He sledged the bowler..he hit them all over...he danced down the track..and the rest is what the pic shows you...
Now, he maybe 37,but that doesn't mean he'll let you get away with a wild attempt to clear the ground...you leave the crease, you pay for it...Gilly kept it simple too!...infact simpler and the Hope for the DC fans reignited...
They wen't into the "strategic time out" at 68-3..and like Ravi Shastri says "its still anybody's game"...It sure was!
There were post-break nerves for both the teams...and the pic on the top shows how this red soldier succumed to it...just when Harmeet Singh was going for runs all over and seemed like there was no way he could help the blues, there had to be a turnaround[that's the beauty of underdog stories!]
And the turnaround was literal...this cheeky/cute/sheepishly smart stroke played by our very own wall saw his leg stump uprooted...
On any other day, he would be called one of the smartest and finest cricketers India has ever produced...but yesterday was a different story...
He took so much pains to attempt this absolute crazy shot with the fine leg fielder deep...Harsha Bhogle was right..."The people in Narayanaguda,Hyderguda and Charminar and many more places will be chanting the words 'go wall!' "
Dravid tried a bout bat-wrestling with the unarmed air and green grass as he walked back to the dug out..and Gilly and co. could rejoice and regroup and smell the air which h
ad "H.I.S.T.O.R.Y" written all over it..in BLUE!
The Reds went on to fall and fall deep...from where they surely couldn't recover...Gilly and his boys had turned it around...only to shoot up from Position #8 to becoming the champs!...B.L.I.S.S!!
The victory lap and the trophy lift...as they did them far far away in the bull ring, back here in hydie, we were nothing less than ecstatic...all we could mutter was "freak..we won!"...high-5s and hugs and fist punches were all part of the involuntary rituals...to celebrate the rise of the down and dusted pride of the Deccan Chargers...

Now, everybody know my love for this gentleman ...he managed to make me cry again in the form of a knock which read 85 runs off 35 balls...and that came in the semis against the "season's favourites" and has lead the team from the front...backed them..motivated them..and has done everything he should be doing as a captain and a senior player...and a lot more!
I remember the scenes last year...his dejection on the fact that he couldn't win a single game for the ever supporting home crowd...
But 2009 has been different...for him..for us...for the magical world of Indian Premier League...This ex-aussie wicket keeper batsman turned the tables on its head...Yet again he became my HERO on the field :)
-----We Freaking Won...We beat 7 Teams that were "supposedly" better than us-----
*****
P.S : More than the Hyderabad connection, Its Gilly's presence that's made me love the team..although not denying the fact that the diamond studded indian map which is going to sit pretty in hyderabad which is something that I'm going to be immensely proud of.
P.S.S:The beauty of this win is how after such a debacle last year, we defended the team by saying "Chalta yaaron..agla IPL apna ich hai!"...How about that for hope?? :)
P.S.S.S: And now that we go into the champions league as the best domestic T20 team and since its going to be held in India, Gilly, October mein milenge!;D
P.S.S.S.S: ItS OuRs BaBy!! *****
